Audi - S Line Badge
Explaination and usages
What does actually the S Line badge mean on vehicles by Audi?
Audi cars carrying this label are actually products of Audi high performance branch "Quattro GmbH" in charge of sports and performance cars. Vehicles with this label are derived from the standard models that are adapted to the task with more powerful engines, sport suspension, brake systems, exhaust, etc. Designation S stands for Sport model range and those Audi vehicles are located just under the models labeled RS in terms of performance, as well as the equipment and technology used.

The origins of the S badge (with red surround), is nothing to do with sport, per se. Ayrton Senna, who never drove for AUDI owned AUDI dealerships in Brazil, and he was instrumental in vast car sales within that country. Upon his death, AUDI made the decision to honour him forever by introducing an S badge to their sportier cars. S Line is merely marketing, you get slightly sportier looks, but not the full blown packages.
