Virtual Adviser's™ opinion
Two significantly similar cars, no doubt about that. Still, each one has something different to offer. Even though they belong to the same vehicle segment, their purpose might be slightly different with 5-door Vectra Stationwagon being a wagon while 4-door Vectra , on the other hand, is a sedan. Another thing to consider here is the number of doors each one of them offers. The first one is a 5-door, allowing access to both front and rear seats and a usefull hatch on the rear end as well. The other one though is a 4-door, allowing access to both front and rear seats.
SafetyVehicles in question are actually the same model so there's nothing here to provide an advantage to any of the two.
ReliabilityManufacturers have been building their reliability reputation for decades now and, generally speaking, it appears that Opel sits somewhere in the middle fault-wise, at least on all of the models level. These are the official statistics, while our visitors describe reliability of Opel with an average rating of 4.2 out of 5. That apart, owners of different cars powered by the same engine as these two vehicles rank it on average as 4.5 out of 5.
Performance & Fuel economy4-door Vectra is a bit more agile, reaching 100km/h in 0.4 seconds less than its competitor. In addition to that it accelerates all the way to 200 kilometers per hour, 5km/h more than the other car. When it comes to fuel economy things look pretty much the same for both cars, averaging around 5.8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (49 mpg), in combined cycle.
Verdict
5-door Vectra Stationwagon appears just a bit more reliable, although the difference is truly marginal. The most important thing when deciding between any two vehicles should always be safety, both passive and active. In this case though, it seems that both cars show similar levels of passenger protection all together, so that won't break a tie. But one thing that actually could is the performance, with 4-door Vectra offering somewhat better performance, just enough to call it quicker. To make things even better, it consumps less fuel! I believe that, when we take all into account, we have only one winner here - the 4-door Vectra . In any case that's my personal view, built upon all the data available to me. What should decide here though is the way you feel about the two vehicles, and I hope you'll find my guidelines useful in the process.
