What does actually the Hybrid badge mean on vehicles by Toyota?
Each of the vehicles with this label has a fuel-efficient petrol engine that, while engaged, recharges a battery which is an integral part of the car. At low speeds, the battery is used to drive the car silently, using an electric motor. When there is a need for greater power (for example sudden acceleration or high speed), a petrol engine is activated. All components of these vehicles, such as CVT gearboxes and reversible battery charging systems, as well as aerodynamics are designed to help fuel economy and low emission levels of harmful gases.
Toyota is a pioneer in the field of hybrid vehicles, ie vehicles that combine conventional internal combustion engines and electric motors with associated batteries. This is evidenced by the fact that one million hybrid vehicles were sold by this brand by 2007 and 5 million by 2013. Apart from the Hybrid badge, and depending on the specific implementation, there are two other badges in use:
THS - Toyota Hybrid System
HSD - Hybrid Sinergy Drive
